Mental Health Assessment

for Children and Teens (ages 6-18)

Is it just a phase — or something deeper?

As parents, it can be hard to know when your child’s emotional ups and downs are part of growing up — and when they might be signs of something more.

If your child is struggling with anxiety, mood swings, outbursts, or behavioral changes, a professional mental health assessment can help bring clarity and peace of mind.

What is a Mental Health Assessment?

Unlike a quick 15-minute screening, our assesment is an in-depth, two-session process designed to ensure accuracy, meet school requirements and guide next steps

Our assessments are designed to:

  • Help identify emotional, behavioral, or psychological concerns early

  • Provide parents and caregivers with a clearer understanding of their child’s needs

  • Offer guidance on next steps — including counseling, referrals, or support plans

We use the K-SADS (Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children) — a gold-standard tool for evaluating mental health in young people.

Common Signs Your Child May Need an Assessment
  • Frequent emotional outbursts or anger

  • Withdrawal from friends or family

  • Trouble focusing in school

  • Sleep disturbances or appetite changes

  • Expressing hopelessness or fear

What’s Included in the Assessment

Each assessment is 2 sessions × 60 minutes, plus a full written report.

Step-by-step process:

  1. Questionnaire – Detailed symptom checklists (including a separate parent questionnaire for children/teens).

  2. Session 1 – Clinical interview with parent and/or child.

  3. Session 2 – Follow-up interview to ensure findings are accurate (school counselors require at least two sessions for acceptance).

  4. Written Report & Plan – Outlines whether diagnostic criteria are met, includes practical “do’s and don’ts,” and offers guidance for follow-up care if needed.

Costs

This assessment including everything listed above is priced at $405.

Multiple installments are possible, please inquire about the options.

Why a Diagnosis Matters for Your Child’s Education

In Texas public schools, an official diagnosis isn’t just clarity for you as a parent — it opens doors to real support for your child.

With a professional assessment, your child may qualify for:

  • Classroom accommodations (like extra time on tests, reduced distractions, or modified assignments).

  • Behavioral support plans that help teachers respond with understanding, not punishment.

  • 504 Plans or IEPs that legally require schools to provide the help your child needs.

  • School-based counseling or special services to make learning less overwhelming.

Without an official diagnosis, many of these supports are out of reach.

That’s why our assessments don’t just give you a report — they give your child the tools and protections to thrive at school.

More Than Just a Label

We believe a diagnosis is a tool, not a definition of who you are. It’s a starting point — a way to understand what’s really going on so you can take meaningful steps forward.
Our assessments give you clarity, direction, and the confidence to know you’re not in this alone.

This is why your assessment includes:

  • A written report you can take to school counselors or other professionals.

  • Clear recommendations for therapy, counseling, or other support.

  • Guidance for parents on how to help at home.

  • Reassurance that we walk alongside you — we don’t just “slap a label” and send you away.
