June 2023

Newsletter June 2023

Thank you for taking the time to read our second E-newsletter. We are excited to update you on our growth over the last few months and some exciting things that are coming up.

Growth

At our grand opening on April 22, 2023, we announced that we hoped to have completed our first 100 sessions of therapy and addiction recovery coaching by early May. Not only were we successful in that, but we have completed over 100 more sessions in the month of June alone. We are so excited about this growth, and to see God's hand in the way that Genesis Family is developing.

Scholarships

Just like the number of clients and sessions have been growing, so has our mission to provide mental health care for those who cannot afford it. Currently, we have five fully-funded scholarships, financially supported through generous donations from our community.

Additionally, we’ve received three more scholarship applications from individuals in need, yet do not currently have the finances to accept these individuals as clients.  As we are reaching out to more churches and individuals to see if we can receive funding, we are praying that funds will become available for them soon.

Please find a short description of both individuals below why they are seeking help for their mental health, despite being on the waiting list:

1) Our first applicant is a man who was raised around drugs and alcohol and adopted this as his coping method since he was a teenager. The year he graduated high school, his baby that was born a year prior passed away, which caused him to spiral downward. Now, as a husband and father of multiple children he needs guidance on how to grow and heal mentally so he can give his family a stable foundation. Both he and his wife and are seeking counseling, yet due to the fact there is only one income in the family they only have the financial capacity to have one individual in counseling.

2) Our second applicant is suffering from a porn addiction since his teens and needs help overcoming it. He is a military veteran who has suffered from PTSD and has tried a variety of ways to find help. He has invested in himself by paying for the first few sessions with the money he has, but is not able to afford the entire 12-week addiction recovery program. He is hoping that a partial scholarship will cover the rest in order to get the help he has been looking for.

3) Our third applicant is the spouse of a recovering addict. Her husband is receiving treatment currently, but having lived with an addictive spouse for many years, her emotional health and financial situation has taken a toll. She is seeking therapy to help her cope with many overwhelming obstacles that she faces. She is currently the only source of income in her household, which is why she is seeking financial support.

Jane Around The World

We are excited to announce that we have further cultivated our relationship with Jane Around The World (JATW) and now have an official partnership agreement. As mentioned in our previous newsletter, JATW is a transitional living home that aims to prevent teenagers aging out of foster care from becoming homelessness. After having to endured many hardships, these teenagers and young women typically need mental health resources. Due to our partnership, Genesis Family will commit to providing two 3-month scholarships for residents in the JATW program. As of now, we have had the

privilege of helping two incredible women from this program and are hopeful to help many more in the future.

The Genesis Family Bible Forum

On May 21st, we hosted our very first Bible Forum, where we joined with other Christians to apply the bible to current topics and themes we experience in our Genesis Family office. Since Genesis Family is a biblically-based mental health organization, we are dedicated to ensure that the guidance and help we provide is always biblically-sound and accurate. Since we see various complicated and unique issues in our therapy and recovery coaching rooms, we always want to keep biblical truth as the foundation of all the services we provide.

Our first Bible Forum was focused on the topic of infidelity, where we camped out on two guiding questions:

  • Is infidelity a biblically-supported reason for divorce?
  • Is pornography a biblically-supported form of infidelity?

It was inspiring to see that many individuals came prepared to discuss these topics, while still using various resources to explore true biblical context and meaning of these important questions. The forum got especially interesting when we then added fictional, yet realistic, examples of how these

topics play out in our therapy and coaching sessions, highlighting to all that these that these issues are not always as black and white as many like to think.

Overall, the discussions were amazing and our clinicians ended up with a lot of food for thought. Life’s circumstances and challenges are not always black and white, and that is why inviting people to seek biblical truth was a valuable experience for all. We hope to organize more bible forums in the future, and will try to do this once per quarter.

Antioch Community Church’s Parent Roundtable - 04/30/2023

On April 30th both Rens & Tanya were invited to speak at Antioch Community Church on the topic of sexuality and gender identity. We had the pleasure of explaining exactly what is happening and what trends we are seeing from a statistical point of view in society. Tanya continued to address the psychological components of the social contagion that is going on with regards to the LGBTQ+ community.

After explaining definitions and trends, we interactively had roundtable discussions with our parents to discover how we can safeguard our families against agendas, but also how to lovingly yet effectively respond if this agenda does seem to get a hold of your children.

Great insights were shared, and we received an overwhelming amount of support from the entire group. At the end of this event, the entire group of parents surrounded us and prayed over us. It was truly a phenomenal day.

Upcoming events:

Summer break: August 5th - August 21nd 2023

From August 5th until August 20rd Genesis Family will be closed for two weeks. We will be open again on Tuesday August 22nd, ready to receive clients for both therapy and addiction recovery coaching.

Genesis Family Bible Forum – October 2023

Genesis Family is a biblically-based mental health organization, we are dedicating to ensure that the guidance and help we provide is biblically sound and accurate. Since we see various complicated and unique issues in our therapy and recovery coaching rooms, we always want

to keep biblical truth at the foundation of all the services we provide. With the belief that “iron sharpens iron,” our second Bible Forum will include various leaders and community members in order to discuss the following topic:

How should Christians respond to individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ and the LGBTQ+ movement’s agenda?

Every Christian with an interest for Biblical discussion is welcome, but we do require everyone to register beforehand so we can send you the upcoming topics in order for everyone to have done their homework. We will confirm the exact date, time and location in our August E-newsletter.
